A madman holed up in Plourin-lès-Morlaix kills a neighbor and injures his companion

The maniac holed up for several hours this Friday in Plourin-lès-Morlaix, very close to Morlaix, in Finistère, would have tried to end his life. The armed man had taken refuge in a building after killing a neighbor and injuring her companion. He was airlifted in “very critical” condition, announced the Brest public prosecutor. He presents “an injury to the head”, suggesting “a suicide attempt on his part”, specifies Stéphane Kellenberger.

The woman, discovered under an exterior staircase, aged around sixty, was fatally shot by the maniac's shots. A 55-year-old man, who is the victim's companion, and not his son as initially mentioned, was injured. He is “seriously” affected but “out of danger”, underlines the magistrate.

Investigation opened for assassination

Both are “neighbors of the wrongdoer”, notes the prosecutor, who opened an investigation for murder and attempted murder, “in light of the first elements obtained”. And not for murder, which suggests premeditation. The three shots were heard a little after 2 p.m. by neighbors who alerted the police.

Present in large numbers, they cordoned off the streets neighboring the building from where the shots rang out. The investigations were entrusted to the Plourin-lès-Morlaix gendarmerie research brigade and the Rennes gendarmerie research section. The GIGN of Nantes visited the site.

Important security perimeter

The intervention lasted several hours. “Residents present nearby are invited to remain calm and limit their movements,” the town hall wrote on its website. The town hall also announced on Facebook that it had opened a room to accommodate residents unable to return to their homes due to the security system.
