A TER hits a car at a level crossing in Haute-Garonne, traffic interrupted

A terrible accident took place late Sunday afternoon in Haute-Garonne. A TER hit a car on a level crossing in Belberaud. Traffic should be severely disrupted until at least Monday noon, SNCF said.

The driver of the vehicle, a woman aged around 40, had to be extricated from her vehicle and was transported in absolute emergency to a Toulouse hospital, firefighters said.

Train passengers are in good health

The tragedy took place shortly after 5 p.m. near the town of Belberaud, in the suburbs of Toulouse, and rail traffic was completely interrupted between the Pink City and Narbonne. The nearly 200 train passengers, in good health according to SNCF Voyageurs, were evacuated by bus in the evening and transported to Toulouse.

For the hundreds of other travelers whose trains are blocked on the tracks or at stations in Toulouse, Carcassonne or Narbonne, the wait could be long, while the SNCF seeks the best solution – hotel night, bus – for everyone. “It will drag on overnight, because both the technical diagnosis takes a lot of time and the infrastructure has been heavily damaged,” said a spokesperson for SNCF Voyageurs.
