Operating expenses (OpEx)

These are the ongoing, recurring, day-to-day expenses that are needed to run a business smoothly. High or inefficient expenses can reduce the operating profit margin. Such expenses include rent, property tax, salaries, utility bills, administrative costs or funds used for repair and maintenance of equipment. These are consumed and expensed in the same accounting period. Hence, these are recorded in the income statement and not depreciated over time.
