Re-voting is being held for Üsküdar Deputy Mayor Election

MEHTAP GÖKDEMİR / ANKARA - Re-election will be held today in Üsküdar Municipal Council to determine the deputy mayor. However, the detention of three municipal council members from CHP before the election and the resignation of four members from CHP and joining the AK Party changed the balance. With the release of Deputy Mayor Mithat Özdemir, one of the detained names, under judicial control, CHP, AK Party and MHP enter the election with an equal score of 21 votes each.

Both the risk of Üsküdar passing to the AK Party and the possibility of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Council changing hands in the event of a negative decision regarding the case files pending in the Supreme Court against Ekrem İmamoğlu spurred the CHP into action. The Headquarters will hold a meeting with the municipal council members in Istanbul and establish one-on-one contact.

Will be elected by secret ballot

In Üsküdar Municipality, the Deputy Mayor will be elected among the municipal council members by secret ballot. In the first two rounds of voting, two-thirds of the total number of members will be required, and in the third round of voting, an absolute majority of the total number of members will be required. If an absolute majority is not achieved in the 3rd ballot, a 4th ballot will be held for the two candidates with the most votes. The member with the most votes in the 4th ballot will be elected mayor or deputy mayor. In case of equality of votes, a draw will be made.

'We will not surrender'

CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, in his post on his social media account, gave the message, "We will not hand over the trust given by the nation to anyone through table games."
