Teresina councilor arrested on suspicion of vote buying

Teresina councilor Valdemir Virgino (PRD) is among the 18 people arrested in the act, on Saturday (3), for alleged practices of electoral corruption, known as vote buying, in the capital. The information was confirmed by the Electoral Court. g1 tries to locate the parliamentarian's defense.

Valdemir Virgino must undergo a custody hearing this Sunday (4). Until the last update of this report, the Electoral Court had not confirmed whether the parliamentarian is among those arrested on suspicion of electoral corruption and criminal association.

Understand the case

According to the Federal Police, 18 people were arrested in Teresina with electoral campaign materials, cash stored in packages, documents, lists and notes with voter information.

Of them, 16 people were charged with electoral corruption. The other two were charged with electoral corruption and also with criminal association.

The names of the others investigated were not disclosed. They were taken to the Federal Police headquarters in Teresina for judicial police procedures.

The seized materials will be analyzed, and investigations are ongoing to clarify the facts and identify possible responsibilities.
