Video shows chase and raid after shooting that ended with the death of a criminal in Botafogo

The shooting took place on São Clemente Street this Wednesday (21). In the images, it is possible to hear the shots fired by civil police officers and the collision between vehicles shortly afterwards.

The shooting occurred during an action to arrest one of the criminals who participated in the attempted robbery of archaeologist Tania Andrade Lima, aged 80, in Leblon, last week.

According to the Civil Police, agents from the 14th DP (Leblon) were carrying out investigations when they located a car identified by the investigation as being involved in the attack on the victim. Upon noticing the team approaching, the driver allegedly tried to run over the police officers and shot at them.

The agents reacted and there was an exchange of gunfire. The driver was shot during the action and died, according to police information. A woman who was also in the vehicle was hit by shrapnel.

The two were rescued and taken to health units. Their health status had not been reported until the last update of this report.

Due to the operation, a lane of Rua São Clemente was closed at Rua da Matriz. According to the Rio Operations Center, traffic was blocked from Rua Muniz Barreto.

Drivers heading towards Humaitá were advised to use Mena Barreto and Visconde de Silva streets as alternative routes.
