Vo Gia Thinh is the double valedictorian of Ho Chi Minh City Polytechnic University with the highest composite admission and competency assessment test scores.

Surpassing more than 6,000 new students, Vo Gia Thinh is the double valedictorian with the highest composite admission and competency assessment scores at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology.

Thinh was honored by the school at the opening ceremony on the morning of September 5, with scores in these two forms being 1124/1200 and 98.11/100 respectively. In particular, in the comprehensive admission method, the review score includes many components such as competency assessment test scores, high school graduation, academic transcripts...

According to the school, another special thing is that Thinh achieved a perfect score in Mathematics in both the graduation exam and the competency assessment exam of Ho Chi Minh City National University.

"I was very surprised and a little pressured, because I never thought I would become university valedictorian," Thinh shared.

Former Physics student at Nguyen Du High School for the Gifted, Dak Lak, chose to pursue Computer Science.

For Thinh, the moment of being honored by the school reminded him of his 12 years of studying with determination and perseverance.

The male student said that when he practices for exams but doesn't get results or gets low scores, he often doubts himself, especially during the sprint exam review period. Thinh then tried to "ignore" the scores, focusing on detailed planning: what to study, where to be weak, and how to improve.

"I try not to turn a bad day into a reason to give up. That perseverance has brought me to today's results," Thinh said.

Another secret for male students is to learn from mistakes, in Math and other subjects. Every time I make a mistake, I look for the cause, whether it's due to my lack of knowledge, misunderstanding of the nature, lack of careful calculation, or not knowing how to handle the format. After that, Thinh went back to consolidate the weak knowledge, then tried again.

"So, I know how to change my thinking for each type of lesson," Thinh said.

Although mentally prepared, after a week of becoming a Polytechnic student, Thinh was overwhelmed by the size of the lecture hall, the large amount of knowledge and the fast pace of learning. In addition, an environment with many good friends is a motivation but also a lot of pressure.

Thinh started with general subjects such as Physics 1, Calculus 1, Digital Systems and Computing. The male student said that the introduction is still knowledge continued from high school but at a more complex level of thinking and calculation, difficult to grasp right after listening to a lecture.

"Now I understand that passing university is not the destination, but the starting point," Thinh said. "I told myself to quickly put aside joy to start a new journey."

Male students aim to arrange reasonable study time, prepare lessons and proactively learn outside knowledge to supplement classroom lectures. In addition, Thinh wants to participate in scientific research, team and volunteer activities.

"I know I still have a lot to learn and want 4 years of college to be more than just good grades or titles," Thinh said.
