Introduction of a "green list" for military equipment in the Polish Army

The introduction of the mechanism was announced during the 34th edition of the International Defense Industry Exhibition in Kielce, Deputy Minister of Defense Cezary Tomczyk. During the press conference, he explained that the solution is modeled on the mechanisms used in the American and French armies.

He explained that each soldier will still receive a full set of equipment and funds to supplement it upon entering service, but - as he noted - some soldiers want to choose other solutions for various reasons. He pointed out that until now it was not possible to use equipment purchased independently in the service.

The "green list" is intended for the soldiers of the Polish Army to determine for themselves what they want to use in the army, what their service should look like, what they want to use to fight, what products are good for them, what they want to use - he argued.

New items will be introduced faster

The plenipotentiary of the head of the Ministry of National Defense for changing the criteria for military service and former operator of the GROM special unit, Paweł Mateńczuk "Naval", pointed out that what equipment will be included in the "green list" will be decided by problem teams operating in the General Staff of the Polish Army, composed of military specialists, which is to allow for the introduction of technological innovations much faster than in the standard purchasing procedure.

Michał Pycio, an expert from the office of the Ministry of National Defense's plenipotentiary for military service conditions, informed that the mechanism will enter into force within 30 days. As he emphasized, the product submission process will be transparent and open to every entrepreneur, and the list will not be of a marketing nature: it will only determine which products in a given category meet the requirements accepted by the army, while the soldier himself will choose the specific product and place of purchase.

The legal basis for the green list was created by the regulation of the Minister of National Defense of September 1, 2026, amending the regulation on the wearing of uniforms by soldiers. It introduces a provision enabling soldiers to wear field, training, special and sports clothing - while performing official duties - items recommended by the Ministry of National Defense. The regulation also obliges the Minister of Defense to publicly disclose a list of such items.
