YouTube is enhancing its approach to labeling AI-generated videos, introducing more prominent tags and automating the detection process for content that heavily utilizes photorealistic AI. This move aims to improve transparency, as previous labeling relied heavily on creators’ voluntary disclosure, which was often not utilized. The new system will flag videos showing significant AI use, with labels appearing prominently below videos or as overlays on Shorts. However, not all AI content will be labeled this way—only that which is substantially altered or generated by AI will receive the new prominent tags, while others will retain disclosures in the video description.
