The Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant has faced repeated security concerns during the ongoing conflict.
MELITOPOL, October 5. /TASS/. Specialists at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) have been monitoring safety at the nuclear facility round the clock, and the background radiation is normal following Ukrainian attacks on the laboratory building and radioactive waste processing facility, the nuke plant said.
"The situation is under control by the staff. Safety parameters are being monitored round the clock. The background radiation at the generation site and in the sanitary protection zone is within established norms," the ZNPP wrote on its Max channel. "The lack of nuclear safety risks following these attacks does not eliminate the risks of attacks targeting the premises of the nuclear power plant," it warned.
Earlier, Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev said two facilities at the ZNPP - the laboratory building and the radioactive waste processing facility - were attacked by Ukrainian troops last night. The former is situated just 200m from Power Units 4 and 5. Damage to both buildings’ roofs was reported, the head of Russia’s nuclear power corporation said.
