Harvard Anthropologist Urges US-China Cooperation to Address Global Aging Crisis

Harvard medical anthropologist Arthur Kleinman, 85, is calling for US-China cooperation to address the global aging crisis. In a March 31 interview, he proposed that the US learn from China's long-term care insurance system while China adopts US nursing home models. By 2050, nearly 30% of China's population and 40% of Japan's will be over 65, with the US exceeding 20%. Kleinman, retiring this year, is widely recognized as a founding father of modern medical anthropology.
