Rescue work is underway as crane overturned amidst adverse weather, claiming three lives at Jewar Airport Flyover construction site

FARIDABAD: At least three people died and one injured after a crane overturned at the construction site of the Jewar Airport flyover near Paheda Khurd on Thursday. According to preliminary information, due to adverse weather conditions, the crane, which was secured over a container, crashed onto the container. Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) for Ballabhgarh, Faridabad, Pratik Agrawal informed that four people were trapped inside the container. “We have successfully rescued one individual alive, though injured,” he added. Agrawal said that the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) stationed at the spot started the rescue operation, which is still going on. “The SDRF team stationed here has also recovered three bodies, and rescue operations are currently proceeding continuously,” he added further. According to SDRF officials, Three labourers have died. “The rescue operation is still on but three bodies were recovered and one of the trapped labourers was rescued safely”, ASI Amarjit, SDRF said. Agarwal also confirmed death of three labourers and claimed that the accident happened due to bad weather. Yashpal, police spokesman also confirmed three deaths. "Four people were rescued and sent to the hospital but three of them have been declared dead by the doctors," he said. An eyewitness, Sunil Kumar, said, “During the storm, a crane overturned. Two people were rescued, but 2-3 people are still trapped. This crane is working on the construction of the Jewar Airport flyover.” (With agency inputs)
