Hyundai Motor Group U.S. Sales Rise 2.7% in May, Led by Eco-Friendly Vehicles
Hyundai Motor Group said Thursday its U.S. sales rose 2.7 percent from a year earlier in May, led by solid growth of its eco-friendly vehicles.
The group said its combined sales in the United States increased to 174,860 units last month. Hyundai Motor Co.'s sales rose 3.4 percent on-year to 94,358, while sales at Kia Corp. were up 1.9 percent on-year to 80,502 units.
Such sales increases were led by the demand for the group's eco-friendly cars, such as its all-electric and hybrid vehicles, with Hyundai and Kia pointing out the numbers for May represent the highest monthly figure on record.
The two companies sold a combined 52,693 units of eco-friendly cars in the month, up 62.3 percent from the same period a year earlier.
Eco-friendly cars also accounted for 30.1 percent of total sales for the group, according to the two companies.
