Mobile anti-aircraft artillery complex "BM-V-01" for combating swarms of drones

MOSCOW, September 8 - RIA Novosti. The BM-V-01 mobile anti-aircraft artillery complex was developed on the basis of the Rat project for the purpose of destroying, among other things, a swarm of drones, project manager Alexey Molokanov (Ruselectronics holding, part of Rostec) told RIA Novosti.

The updated, modified complex was first presented at the III International Technology Congress by the AIM company together with the Ruselectronics holding (part of Rostec).

“At the exhibition, for the first time, an experimental operational model was presented, developed as a result of research work that was carried out over 2.5 years. The complex is designed to defeat all types of UAVs from ultra-small Mavic type to the Fierce aircraft type and, most importantly, against a swarm of drones,” Molokanov said.

According to him, various 30-millimeter ammunition is designed to defeat all types.

The operating algorithm is as follows: the surveillance locator scans the upper hemisphere and identifies air targets at ranges: for small UAVs about five kilometers and for aircraft type about 20–25 kilometers. Can simultaneously track up to 64 targets. The selected target is picked up by a precision targeting locator, which sees the target at a distance of three kilometers. Next, the operator makes a decision on the choice of ammunition for destruction: if it is a small drone, then it is advisable to use ammunition with ready-made submunitions. These are metal balls in the amount of 310 pieces in one projectile.

“The ammunition has a built-in microcircuit, in the first 50 meters the projectile’s flight speed is calculated, the pre-emptive detonation point is calculated, at a distance of 5-7 meters from the target the projectile explodes and forms a “cloud” of balls with a diameter of two meters, which significantly increases the likelihood of hitting a UAV or a swarm of drones,” Molokanov said.
