A Qatari official stresses the importance of security self-sufficiency for the Gulf region

During a discussion session at the "Hailey" Forum in Abu Dhabi, Al-Ansari stressed that "we must realize in the Gulf region that the presence of international forces in the region and the establishment of a strategic alliance with the United States is extremely important, but not sufficient."

He added: “Self-sufficiency in the field of security is the only way forward,” referring to the need to develop Gulf defense and security capabilities and not limit regional security guarantees to external alliances.

The Qatari official's statements come in light of the repercussions of the war with Iran and the challenges it imposed on Gulf security and freedom of navigation, especially in light of the importance of the Strait of Hormuz to the movement of trade and global energy supplies.
