The Saudi Foreign Minister attacks Iran at the United Nations and calls for the protection of international navigation

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan attacked Iran during his speech before the United Nations General Assembly, calling for the need to protect international navigation and rejecting the use of waterways as a “tool of blackmail.”

He said during his speech, on Saturday, that Saudi Arabia “and the countries of the region were subjected to brutal Iranian attacks,” stressing that “Gulf security is an integral part of the security of the region and the world... and is linked to energy security and the continuity of supply chains.”

The Saudi minister added, "We affirm our full right to preserve the Kingdom's security and sovereignty."

He considered that protecting international navigation is a “shared responsibility,” noting also that the risks that threaten international navigation affect the global economy.

He stressed Saudi Arabia's support for Qatari and Pakistani efforts to reduce the escalation between the United States and Iran.

The Saudi Foreign Minister also stressed that the international community must "reject what the Houthi militia is doing in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait," pointing to the necessity of stabilizing Yemen and protecting civilians.

He considered that "any arrangements for the security of the region must be comprehensive and deal with the sources of the threat."

Regarding the nuclear file, he stressed the need for the region to be free of “weapons of mass destruction and for peaceful nuclear facilities to be subject to international control.”
