Saudi Arabia beats Kuwait 1-0 and tops Group A in Gulf 27

Saudi Arabia topped the first group in the Gulf Football Cup “Gulf 27”, after defeating Kuwait 1-0, while the opening confrontation between Iraq and Oman ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Saudi national team's goal came in the 73rd minute, after Hammam Al-Hamami penetrated the penalty area and shot a ball that collided with defender Youssef Al-Haqqan, changing direction and entering the net.

The first half ended in a goalless draw, after the referee canceled a goal scored by Mohamed Abu Al-Shamat in the 37th minute due to a violation that preceded the scoring. On the other hand, Mohamed Dahham came close to scoring for Kuwait with a shot that passed near the post before the break.

The Saudi team continued its attempts in the second half until it succeeded in advancing, before the match was stopped for a few minutes due to the injury of goalkeeper Nawaf Al-Aqidi, who left the field and was replaced by Muhammad Al-Owais.

The homeowners maintained their lead until the final whistle, despite counting ten minutes of stoppage time, to score the first three points in their journey towards regaining the title that had been absent since 2003.

Iraq and Oman draw in the opening match

The Iraqi and Omani teams tied 1-1, today, Wednesday, at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium in Jeddah, at the opening of the first group competitions of the Gulf Football Cup “Gulf 27”.

Muhammad Qasim opened the scoring for Iraq in the sixth minute after a decisive pass from Ayman Hussein, before Nasser Al Rawahi equalized for Oman in the 67th minute, following a pass from Ahmed Al Kaabi.

Each team scored a point at the beginning of its journey within the group, which also includes host Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

Iraq was the most threatening to the goal in the first half, but they did not succeed in doubling the score. Hassan Abdul Karim came close to increasing the lead in the 39th minute, but goalkeeper Ibrahim Al-Mukhaini blocked his attempt, ending the half with Iraq leading by one unanswered goal.

In the second half, the Omani team equalized, while the match witnessed the exit of Iraqi player Mustafa Saadoun due to injury.

Ayman Hussein wasted an opportunity to resolve the confrontation in favor of Iraq in the 90th minute, and the score remained the same until the final whistle, despite eight minutes being counted as stoppage time.
