An endoscopist in Vladivostok was sentenced to 1.5 years of restriction of freedom for the death of a patient

The Pervomaisky District Court of Vladivostok sentenced the endoscopist to 1.5 years of restriction of freedom.

The doctor was found guilty of causing death by negligence due to improper performance of her professional duties during a colonoscopy.

The doctor was also deprived of the right to practice medicine for two years.

VLADIVOSTOK, September 11 – RIA Novosti. The Pervomaisky District Court of Vladivostok imposed 1.5 years of restriction of freedom on an endoscopist due to whose fault an 85-year-old patient died after a colonoscopy, the court reports.

“The court found that in April 2025, during a routine diagnostic examination – colonoscopy – an 85-year-old patient, due to improper performance of his professional duties by a doctor, suffered a perforation (rupture) of the intestinal wall, from which, due to the development of dangerous complications for the patient’s health, he died four days later,” the statement says.

The court found the endoscopist guilty under Part 2 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Causing death by negligence due to improper performance by a person of his professional duties.”
