The Department of Defense recently established a new committee called 'Project Meridian' and announced that Musk, co-founder Palmer Luckey Anduril, and former Congressman Newt Gingrich will participate.

It has not been specifically disclosed what authority this committee has or how much influence it can exert. However, it is only known that long-term changes in the future battlefield will be reviewed and submitted as a report four months later.

Two meetings have already been held at the Pentagon, and it is known that Senator Tom Cotton (Republican, Arkansas) and Phil Hegseth, younger brother of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, were in attendance.

The problem is that both Musk and Lucky, the main members of 'Project Meridian', are leading defense industry-related businesses.

Aerospace company Space Anduril is a defense company that supplies drone response systems, interceptor weapons, and unmanned fighter jets to the Ministry of National Defense.

Ministry of Defense officials were concerned that if they produced a report predicting the appearance of future war and exploring ways to respond, it could contain information that was advantageous to the company in some way.

A former Defense Department official pointed out, "Of course it is a conflict of interest. Whatever the outcome (of Project Meridian) is, it will benefit Musk, not the country."

Another current official said, "If Palmer and Elon are going to decide where the (Department of Defense) budget should go, I wouldn't want to be a competitor to Anduril and SpaceX."

Anduril's side expressed its position that it would take care to avoid controversy, saying, "We will apply the highest ethical standards in areas where conflicts of interest occur." On the other hand, Musk did not respond to requests for coverage.

Separately, it is pointed out that Musk may already be indirectly influencing US military strategy.
