In Buryatia, 12 bears entering populated areas were eliminated in one day

ULAN-UDE, September 11 - RIA Novosti. State hunting inspectors of the Republican Service for Supervision of Natural Resources (Burprirodnadzor) and hunting teams eliminated 12 bears in Buryatia within 24 hours, the department’s press service reported.

It is noted that during the day, Burprirodnadzor received 23 complaints regarding bears entering populated areas. State hunting inspectors, together with teams of hunters, made 26 trips to the suburbs of Ulan-Ude, Kabansky, Bichursky, Zakamensky, Pribaikalsky, Muisky, Dzhidinsky, Ivolginsky, Okinsky and Severo-Baikalsky districts.

“Based on the results of the activities carried out, 12 individuals of bears were regulated. In total, 115 individuals of bears were regulated over the entire period,” the message says.

The press service recommended that residents of Buryatia refrain from going into the forest. The risk of encountering bears exists throughout the republic and remains at a high level, the department emphasized.

On Monday, the administration of the Zakamensky district of the republic told RIA Novosti that a bear attacked a man two kilometers from the village of Khurtaga, doctors were unable to save him, and he died from his injuries in the hospital. A 61-year-old tourist also died from the paws of a bear in the Barguzinsky district of the republic.
