Keelung prosecutors and police join forces to curb drug driving, requesting 13 cases for detention within two weeks and getting 12 cases approved

"Zero tolerance" for drug driving is definitely not a slogan! In order to prevent emerging drug and drug-driving cases from endangering society, the Keelung District Prosecutor's Office has shown an iron-fisted approach. From June 1 to June 15 this year, it has applied to the court for detention of 13 drug-driving cases transferred by the police, and 12 of them were approved by the Keelung District Court, demonstrating the determination of the prosecutors and police to work together to remove unexploded bombs on the road.

At present, the Chinese people are deeply disgusted by the death and injury of innocent citizens caused by drug driving cases.

A motorcycle rider in Keelung City used an emerging drug e-cigarette while riding his bike. His arrogant behavior made passers-by look down upon him and reported him to the police angrily.

Upon receiving the report, the police immediately went to intercept the drug-driving rider; upon investigation, they found that the criminal was suspected of having a history of drug use, and after rapid saliva screening, he showed positive results for drugs. He was arrested on the spot in accordance with the Drug Harm Prevention Regulations and transferred to the Keelung District Prosecutor's Office for investigation.

Huang Sheng, chief prosecutor of the Keelung District Prosecutor's Office, said that prosecutors and police agencies will continue to implement a "zero tolerance" attitude towards drug-driving crimes. In the future, as long as people suspected of drug-driving crimes are found to be serious and are assessed to have a high risk of re-offending, the prosecutors will resort to "preventive detention" to isolate these invisible killers from society on the spot.

In addition, for all drug-driving defendants, the District Prosecutor's Office will also adopt the principle of strict prosecution and proactively ask the court to impose harsher sentences when prosecuting, in order to achieve the effect of strongly suppressing drug-driving, preventing recurrence, and fully protecting citizens' traffic safety and social peace.
