The Laojie Creek watershed in Taoyuan City is wide at the top and narrow at the bottom, and the downstream areas have long faced flooding concerns. The city government has actively promoted improvements in recent years. The right bank of the Wufu Bridge has been completed in 2024, but the left bank still faces the risk of flooding due to insufficient height of the embankment top. Taoyuan City Council Chairman Qiu Yisheng is worried about the surrounding flooding problem and requires the city The Provincial Water Bureau actively sought a budget from the central government. On the 30th, it led a team to conduct an on-site survey and announced that it had received preliminary approval from the Ministry of Economic Affairs for the "County and City River Management and Drainage Overall Improvement Plan in Response to Climate Change" with a total funding of 1.42 billion yuan. In the future, it will comprehensively improve flood control standards and complete the "last mile" of the green corridor along the river bank of Laojie.
Qiu Yisheng said that Laojie Creek is an important river in Zhongli and Taoyuan areas, and it is also an important green belt for citizens to live and relax. Since the tenure of former county magistrate Wu Zhiyang, he has actively promoted the management of Laojie Creek. Now he has won two more projects, which represents another important step in flood control safety. Stretching from Bogongtan, Airport MRT A20 and A21 stations to the Qingpu area, Laojie Creek will become a green corridor connecting local areas. Qiu Yisheng, together with Chen Wenlong, director secretary of the Municipal Water Affairs Bureau, as well as Zhongli District Zhibali Huang Lianying, Yongguang District Chief Huang Xuezhen, Guangming District Chief Lin Kunquan, Qingpu District Chief Zhang Maotu, Qingxi District Chief Li Yongfang, etc., inspected the "Laojie Stream Embankment Improvement Project" (river bank development project on the left bank from the expressway bridge to the pilot south bridge).
During the meeting, Chen Wenlong briefed on the allocation of funds. About 590 million yuan will be used for the "left bank embankment project from Wufu Bridge to the downstream of the expressway", including 460 million yuan for the acquisition of 17 private lands and the construction of 857 meters of revetment; another approximately 830 million yuan will be invested in the "right bank improvement project from the Cross-Laojie Creek Bridge to the Pilot North Bridge" to handle 5.5 kilometers of embankment improvement and environmental creation, comprehensively improving the overall flood control capacity and landscape quality of Laojie Creek.
After the completion of these two major projects, it is estimated that the protected area will be increased by approximately 205 hectares, effectively ensuring the life and property safety of approximately 5,000 surrounding residents. The Water Conservancy Bureau will tighten the clock after the central funds are officially in place, aiming to complete the land acquisition before the end of 2027, and carry out project construction from 2028 to 2029, striving to complete the project as scheduled in 2029.
