The Korean Cultural Center in France holds a special exhibition ‘Buddhist Art, a Millennium of Mystery: Seokguram Grotto’ marking the 140th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and France.

The Korean Cultural Center in France (Director Kim Dong-il) announced on the 25th that it will hold a special exhibition 'Buddhist Art, Mystery of a Thousand Years: Seokguram Grotto' from the 2nd of next month (local time) to March 13th of next year.

This exhibition, prepared in collaboration with the National Heritage Administration, Gyeongju City, and the National Institute of Cultural Heritage to commemorate the 140th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and France, was prepared to promote the aesthetic essence of Korean Buddhist art to France at Seokguram Grotto, which was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995.

This exhibition is designed to allow visitors to experience Seokguram Grotto vividly and in three dimensions. Through the video ‘Gyeongju, a journey into the thousand-year capital city’ and the 3D restoration video of ‘Seokguram, an artificial stone cave connected by 360 stones’, the construction technology of Seokguram is introduced from various angles.

The formative beauty was highlighted through photographs taken by the late artist Han Seok-hong, and a 3D structural model of Seokguram Grotto and tactile aids were also placed to provide a tactile experience.

Other Silla Buddhist cultural heritages can be seen, such as the Mugujeonggwang Great Dharani Sutra, the Sacheonwangsa Temple Site Nokyusin Wall Wall Hall, and Sumaksae, and works by contemporary artists such as Kim Eun-ha and Lee Seung-cheol, who reinterpret traditional Buddhist art in a contemporary formative language, are also presented.

Starting on November 23, you can also see the immersive, realistic video ‘Seokguram Grotto, Infinite World’, which uses four-sided video mapping to realize the interior space of Seokguram Grotto in three dimensions.
