My son graduated but my love didn’t! Parents of Taichung No. 1 Middle School donate 1.4 million, and then ask shareholders to spend tens of millions more to help students

Dentist Lin Chuankai is grateful for the nurturing of his son by Taichung No. 1 Middle School. He has donated funds to support the school since October 2023 and established two scholarships and bursaries to take care of disadvantaged and aboriginal students. So far, he has donated a total of 1.4 million yuan, benefiting 209 people, and was awarded a silver medal for school donations from the Ministry of Education. Lin Chuankai hopes that this sentiment can continue to be passed on, and has also invited two dental clinic shareholders to co-sponsor, hoping to increase the total scholarship and bursary to 10 million yuan to help more students.

Lin Chuankai's son graduated from Taichung No. 1 Middle School in June 2024. In order to express his gratitude for the school's cultivation of children, he began to donate money when his son was studying in the school, and established the "Dr. Lin Chuankai New Generation Scholarship" and "Dr. Lin Chuankai Wende Scholarship". Since their implementation in the first semester of the 2013 academic year, as of the first semester of the 2015 academic year, the two scholarships and bursaries have benefited 209 people and distributed 581,142 yuan.

The "New Generation Scholarship and Bursary" mainly caters to students from low-income households, low- and middle-income households and students from special circumstances. In addition to providing NT$2,000 to NT$3,000 in bursaries each semester, high school graduates can also receive a graduation bursary of NT$16,000. Students who participate in the second-stage interview for certification or university application can also apply for subsidies for registration fees, transportation and accommodation fees, and provide dental treatment discounts. So far, 153 people have been benefited, and NT$448,942 has been distributed.

The "Wende Scholarship" was established by Lin Chuankai in memory of his father-in-law, Weng Wende, an Atayal from Wangyang Village (Marieba Tribe), Renai Township, Nantou County. He was a Taiwan Provincial Councilor and National Congress representative, and continues to practice medicine to serve the people. Lin Chuankai continued his father-in-law's wish to help aboriginal relatives, and rewarded aboriginal students for their outstanding achievements in academics, talent performance and aboriginal activities. A total of 56 people were benefited and 132,200 yuan was distributed.

Lin Chuankai hopes that the scholarship and bursary will not only be a temporary donation, but can be extended in the long term, so he further invites shareholders of New Generation Dental Clinic and Xiugu Dental Clinic to co-sponsor, hoping to increase the cumulative scholarship and bursary to 10 million yuan, so that more students can receive support and their educational opportunities will not be affected by family financial conditions.

Recently, Lin Chuankai is about to open Shuguang Dental Clinic in Taitung City. He has donated 1 million yuan to support Taitung University's "Shuguang Dream Building Project" and promised to donate 1 million yuan from clinic registration fees and surplus to Taitung University every year from 2026 to 2035. The total amount will be 10 million yuan in 10 years. In the first year, 1 million yuan will be used to purchase 30 YouBikes. 2.0 responds to the "last mile" mobility needs of teachers and students; and the Dawn Dream Building Project will support students to study and exchange overseas, serve in tribes and remote areas, encourage indigenous students to return home to contribute what they have learned, and also support teachers to enrich teaching equipment and practical resources.
