Chinese athlete Yan Ziyi and Feng Bin won the women's javelin and discus championship and won the Diamond League championship

The 2026 World Athletics Diamond League Finals ended on the 5th local time in Brussels, Belgium. 18-year-old Chinese teenager Yan Ziyi won the women's javelin championship with a throw of 68.42 meters, winning the Diamond League annual championship trophy for the first time. On the previous competition day, Chinese player Feng Bin also won the women's discus championship.

The World Athletics Diamond League Finals is a high-level international track and field event organized by World Athletics. This season’s Diamond League lasted 16 weeks and took place in 15 cities on four continents. The finals were held in Brussels from September 4th to 5th. Only two players from the Chinese team, Feng Bin and Yan Ziyi, entered the finals.

Yan Ziyi is in excellent form this season and has won four championships in Xiamen, Oslo, Paris and Monaco, all with scores exceeding 67 meters. Her throw of 71.74 meters in Xiamen broke the Asian record, the world U20 record and the Diamond League record, ranking second in women's javelin history.

In the finals, Yan Ziyi fell behind after the first three rounds, overtook in the fourth round, and improved her score to 68.42 meters in the fifth round, breaking the Brussels tournament record and ultimately locking in the championship. Paris Olympic champion Haruka Kitaguchi from Japan won the runner-up with 65.44 meters.

In the women's discus final held on the 4th local time, Feng Bin took the lead with a throw of 66.67 meters in the second round, and then threw 67.46 meters in the fourth round, setting a new personal season best and winning the Diamond League annual championship trophy for the first time. The United States' two-time Olympic champion and world championship champion Sean won the runner-up with 66.92 meters.

Feng Bin became the third Chinese athlete to win the Diamond League annual championship after Gong Lijiao (women's shot put) and Lu Huihui (women's javelin), and Yan Ziyi became the fourth.

According to the rules, the winner of the Diamond League Finals will be eligible to participate in the corresponding events of the Ultimate Championship. The first World Athletics Ultimate Championship will be held in Budapest, Hungary from September 11th to 13th, and Yan Ziyi will move to Budapest. As the women's discus was not included in this event, Feng Bin was not able to participate. However, both will represent the Chinese team in the upcoming Aichi Nagoya Asian Games. (over)
