Korea and France adopted 16 documents in various fields to advance exchange and cooperation between the two countries on the 8th (local time) following the summit meeting between President Lee Jae-myung and President Emmanuel Macron.
Among these, 9 documents were adopted while the two leaders were present after the summit.
First, the two countries signed the Protocol to Amend the Military Information Protection Agreement, which adds viewing restrictions to strengthen the protection of military secrets between the two countries.
The Blue House explained that through this, the stability and reliability of military information exchange were strengthened and a foundation was laid for expanding defense and defense industry cooperation.
In addition, it was decided to strengthen security and safety standards in aviation cooperation between the two countries through the Aviation Agreement Amendment Protocol.
A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was also signed that included promoting joint projects in the fields of artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and quantum technology and efforts to attract investment.
Furthermore, by adopting the space industry promotion cooperation implementation agreement, it was decided to expand the basis for cooperation in the high-tech industry.
In addition, it was decided to solidify the foundation for institutional cooperation by adopting an MOU on industrial cooperation and competitiveness and establishing a new ministerial-level industrial strategy dialogue between the two countries.
At the same time, 'Cultural Cooperation-related MOU' to revitalize cultural industries and joint investments, 'Intellectual Property Cooperation MOU' to increase exchanges in intellectual property policy areas using cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, and 'Long-term Agricultural Service Supply Cooperation Letter of Intent' for cooperation in enrichment facilities were also adopted.
An agreement was also reached involving private companies.
Samsung Electronics decided to participate as a strategic investor in Mistral AI, a French AI startup company, to cooperate in developing an in-house AI model exclusively for Samsung Electronics that can protect its semiconductor know-how, and adopted an investment agreement containing such details.
There were also documents that were not signed in the presence of the President, but were adopted during President Lee's visit.
First, the police agencies of the two countries signed a 'security cooperation agreement' and decided to jointly respond to transnational crimes and join forces in tracking down fugitive criminals.
In addition, 'Business Cooperation MOU' to dispatch economic missions and promote startup information sharing between the two countries, 'Biotechnology Cooperation MOU' and 'Plant Science Cooperation MOU' to strengthen cooperation in the bio field, and 'Quantum Technology Cooperation MOU in the Biotechnology Field' were also included in the adopted documents.
The 'inter-university cooperation MOU' to promote human exchanges between the two countries' science and technology universities, and the 'mathematics and physics cooperation MOU' to expand basic academic research personnel exchanges were also adopted.
In addition, the two countries decided to sign a 'Mutual Logistics Support Agreement' to expedite military support during war and peacetime and are discussing detailed text, and the Blue House reported that an MOU on nuclear research and development cooperation for joint research on next-generation small module reactors (SMRs) is also scheduled to be signed on a separate occasion.
