Civil Defense recovers 160 bodies from the Engineers Tower in Nuseirat and continues searching for the missing

Basal explained that the Engineers Tower, located in the vicinity of Twenty Street north of the Nuseirat Camp, was subjected to Israeli bombing during the war, noting that the tower was then sheltering more than 350 citizens and displaced persons.

He added that since the beginning of the war, civil defense crews have been able to recover about 160 bodies from the tower site, while search operations are still continuing to reach the rest of the victims who are believed to be still under the rubble of the building.

Basal stated that the crews cannot determine the time required to complete the search operations and recover the remains of the remaining victims, given the size of the rubble and the nature of the destruction that occurred at the site, in addition to the severe shortage of equipment and machinery necessary for work.

He stressed that search and recovery operations in the Engineers Tower are being carried out with very simple capabilities, explaining that the Civil Defense is working at the site with only one excavator, which limits the ability of crews to remove large quantities of rubble and reach places where the bodies of victims may be located.

These operations come in light of the continued presence of thousands of bodies under the rubble of destroyed buildings in various areas of the Gaza Strip, amid challenges facing civil defense teams in reaching the damaged sites and dealing with the rubble, which makes search and recovery operations difficult and slow, and delays reaching the victims who are still missing.
