Greek Air Force F-4 Phantom crashed during Athens Flight Week, 2 pilots lost their lives

The F-4 Phantom fighter jet belonging to the Hellenic Air Force crashed during the air show held as part of Athens Flight Week. After the accident at Tanagra Air Base near Athens, emergency teams took action in the region.

HE LOST ALTITUDE DURING THE SHOW

A two-seater F-4 Phantom fighter jet crashed during a demonstration flight at Tanagra Air Base, Greek public broadcaster ERT reported.

It was stated that the plane suddenly lost altitude during the demonstration and began to fall towards the ground. It was reported that the accident occurred just a few minutes after the air show started.

In the images published by ERT, dense black smoke was seen rising from a few hundred meters away from the area where hundreds of spectators were watching the show.

2 PEOPLE LOST THEIR LIVES

It was reported that the two pilots of the F-4 Phantom fighter plane, which crashed during an air show in Greece, lost their lives.

It was noted in the news that there was no evidence that the pilots used ejection seats.

Following the accident, a fire broke out in the area, it was stated in the news that many firefighters and medical teams were sent to the scene, and that hundreds of people watching the show began to be evacuated from the area after the accident and the Athens Flying Week event was temporarily suspended.

EYEWITNESSES: THE PLANE WAS MAKING SMOKE

Eyewitnesses said the F-4 Phantom was emitting smoke before crashing. According to witnesses, the plane then suddenly lost altitude and crashed into the ground.

While the spectators at the scene experienced great panic after the accident, the organizers began to evacuate the area. It has been reported that Athens Flight Week has also been suspended for now.

ACCIDENT DURING ATHENS FLIGHT WEEK

Athens Flight Week is held at Tanagra Air Base on 5 and 6 September with the participation of Greek and foreign military aircraft.
