Burkina Faso mobilizes forces to free kidnapped Spanish citizen

The authorities of Burkina Faso mobilized their security forces to gather information and try to free a kidnapped Spanish citizen, as confirmed this Saturday by a Burkinabe security source, who attributed the kidnapping to a terrorist group. The source, who requested anonymity, indicated that the kidnapping occurred this Friday and attributed it to a terrorist group.

"We have been informed of the kidnapping of a Western citizen, specifically a Spaniard, this Friday, September 4. A terrorist group is behind this criminal act. The only thing I can say is that the forces are mobilized to gather the necessary information and work for the release of the hostage," the source declared.

This source has not provided more details about the identity of the victim, the circumstances of the kidnapping or the place where she was supposedly captured. At the moment, no official information about the case has been released either.

The kidnapping occurs in a context of growing insecurity in Burkina Faso, which has been facing attacks by armed groups for more than a decade, especially in several regions of the country.

The previous most significant case involving Spanish citizens dates back to April 26, 2021. Two Spanish journalists, reporter David Beriain and cameraman Roberto Fraile, along with Irish journalist Rory Young, were killed in an armed attack in eastern Burkina Faso.
