239 People Rescued from the Sunken Ship in Kyrenia Received Treatment, 13 Dead Were Detected

In his written statement, Üstel emphasized that 239 people rescued from the ship that sank off the coast of Kyrenia on August 30 were transferred to public and private hospitals in the TRNC, and announced that all health institutions were mobilized from the first day and 139 physicians and approximately 200 nurses and health workers worked throughout the process.

Üstel thanked the healthcare professionals for their efforts and said, "Our state will continue to support our victims, missing people and their families with all its resources." he said.

Reminding that all 239 people who were rescued alive after the ship sank were sent to hospitals, Üstel stated that as of September 5, 131 of the last 132 people who were treated in public and private hospitals were discharged.

TRNC Prime Minister Üstel stated that the condition of one person being treated in the hospital is improving and said:

"We have no survivors left receiving treatment in intensive care. We have lost 13 people in the accident so far. Search efforts to reach our missing 15 people are continuing on a 24/7 basis."

SHIP SINKING IN KYRENIA

The high-speed passenger ship named "Fleet Jet", which was operating between Kyrenia Port in TRNC and Taşucu Port in Mersin, started to take in water from its front part shortly after departing from Kyrenia at noon on Sunday, August 30, and sank while trying to return to Kyrenia Port.

TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel pointed out that there were a total of 267 passengers and crew on the ship, and announced that 239 people were rescued after the ship sank, the bodies of 13 people were found, and the search for the 15 missing people was continuing.

It is reported that the wreckage of the sunken ship was found at a depth of 554 meters off the coast of Kyrenia.
