This is the return of the World Weightlifting Championships to China after 31 years, and it is also the first qualifying event for the weightlifting event in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. More than 500 athletes from more than 90 countries and regions around the world competed fiercely in 16 levels.

On November 8, in the women's 86kg and above competition at the 2026 World Weightlifting Championships, Chinese player Li Yan won three gold medals with a snatch of 147kg, a clean and jerk of 170kg, and a total score of 317kg, and broke the world record in the snatch.

In the men's 60kg category, Asian Games champion Yang Yang won two gold medals in the snatch and total scores on the first competition day, giving the Chinese team a "good start". In the men's 65kg competition, He Yueji won the snatch gold medal. Then the Chinese female athletes showed great strength: in the women's 53kg category, Zhang Haiqin defeated American player Ulray by 1kg and won the snatch and total score gold medals; in the women's 61kg category, Pei Xinyi won three gold medals with a snatch of 112kg, a clean and jerk of 142kg, and a total score of 254kg; in the women's 77kg category, Yang Qiuxia and Peng Cuiting teamed up to keep all three gold medals in this level in China.

Liao Guifang and Li Yan also performed brilliantly, winning three gold medals each in the women's 86kg and women's 86kg and above categories respectively.

The return of the World Weightlifting Championships to China after 31 years also made the members of the Chinese weightlifting team very emotional.
