YAROSLAVL, September 11 – RIA Novosti. A resident of the Voronezh region was sentenced to 17 years for setting fire to three electrical substations at the direction of Ukrainian special services, the investigative department of the Russian Investigative Committee for the region reported.

The investigation and the court established that in June 2025, a resident of the city of Povorino, Voronezh Region, misled by telephone scammers, at their direction, took out loans from several banks and transferred at least 1.1 million rubles using the details provided. He was offered to set fire to several electrical substations, promising to pay a reward sufficient to repay the loans. The man agreed.

Subsequently, acting on the instructions of Ukrainian special services, the defendant set fire to electrical substations in the Povorinsky and Borisoglebsky districts. He recorded what was happening on video and sent it to the curators, the SUSC clarifies. While attempting another arson, he was detained by FSB operatives.

The man said that he committed three arson attacks.

“By the court verdict, the convicted person was sentenced to 17 years of imprisonment with 3 years to be served in prison, the remaining sentence - in a maximum security colony, followed by restriction of freedom for a period of 1 year 6 months,” the statement says.
