In the Voronezh region, a man was sentenced to 17 years for sabotage at electrical substations

In the Voronezh region, a man was convicted of sabotage. Lenta.ru was informed about this by the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia.

He was found guilty under Articles 281 (“Sabotage committed by an organized group, causing significant property damage”) and 281.2 (“Training for the purpose of carrying out sabotage activities”) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

As the court found, in June 2025, a 42-year-old man, misled by telephone scammers, at their direction, took out loans from several banks and transferred them funds in the amount of about 1.1 million rubles. After that, he was offered to set fire to several electrical substations, promising to pay a reward sufficient to repay the loans, to which the man agreed.

Subsequently, acting on the instructions of Ukrainian intelligence officers, during a correspondence in one of the instant messengers, he received from them the coordinates of electrical substations and video instructions with a detailed description of the method of committing the crime. At the end of June 2025, while in the Povorinsky and Borisoglebsky districts, he set fire to electrical substations, recording what was happening on video and sending it to his curators.

While attempting another arson, FSB officers detained him at the crime scene.

The court sentenced him to 17 years in a maximum security colony. To compensate for the damage caused, his property was seized in the amount of about two million rubles.
