Police officer death incident, National Police Workplace Council urges investigation of the truth

As a police officer in the metropolitan area died, leaving behind a suicide note containing information about superiors in the department, the National Police Workplace Council (direct association) called for an investigation into the truth.

On the 19th, the cooperative issued a statement titled ‘Position on the death of a young Gyeonggi Southern Police Agency police officer’ and stated, “We must thoroughly investigate the truth and prepare effective measures to prevent recurrence.”

“The deceased’s screams, saying ‘I am afraid of the morning coming’ just a few days before the first wedding anniversary, brought great shock and pain to all members of our police force,” the union said. “We can no longer ignore the reality that uniformed public servants who protect the lives and safety of the people are collapsing under pain and pressure within the organization.”

He added, "Unless an organizational culture is established where victims are protected and perpetrators are held accountable, similar tragedies will be repeated. The truth surrounding the deceased's death must be revealed without a single doubt, and abuse of power within the organization and workplace harassment must be strictly investigated and held accountable without any exceptions."

Previously, on the 17th, a police officer in his 30s from a police station in the metropolitan area was found dead near his home.

The deceased is said to have left information about his superiors in the department in his will.
