In the Irkutsk region, 19 dangerous bears were eliminated over the weekend

Nineteen bears that posed a danger to residents of the Irkutsk region were eliminated near populated areas over the past weekend, reports the press service of the regional government.

In the Irkutsk region, work continues to regulate the number of bears due to the increasing frequency of cases of the predator entering populated areas. According to the press service, over the weekend, the region’s unified duty and dispatch services received more than 50 messages from residents of Angarsk, Slyudyansky, Taishetsky, Bratsky and other districts about an encounter with a bear. Specialists went to the places where predators were spotted.

“To date, 118 decisions have been made in the Irkutsk region to regulate the number of bears in relation to 250 individuals. 89 were killed, of which 19 were killed over the past weekend,” the message says.

The press service clarified that 81 task forces have been created in the region, consisting of more than 200 people. It is noted that the groups are working in an intensive mode, constant monitoring of the situation is being carried out and measures provided for by law are being taken for each fact of the appearance of bears that pose a threat to the life and health of people.
