Zabolotskaya stated that the regions mentioned by the delegations are part of Russia

The regions mentioned by representatives of a number of countries during the discussion of the Equal Earth cartographic projection are included in Russia. Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations (UN) Maria Zabolotskaya recalled the status of Crimea and new regions, her words are quoted on the website of the Permanent Mission.

“These territories that these delegations mentioned are part of the Russian Federation, and these territories have been part of the Russian Federation for centuries. Their peoples expressed their desire to return to Russia in free referendums. Thus, the right to self-determination was realized and they became part of Russia in full accordance with the UN Charter,” Zabolotskaya emphasized.

She separately pointed out to the UK representative that the United Kingdom did not recognize the territorial realities that arose in the exercise of the right to self-determination, but London's position later changed.
