US President Donald Trump claims that the importance of the Strait of Hormuz will decrease due to the construction of pipelines and the development of alternative oil transportation routes.

According to Trump, pipelines and a road through Syria, along which oil tanks are transported, are already being built.

US President Donald Trump argues that the importance of the Strait of Hormuz will decrease in the future as pipelines, which are already being built throughout the Middle East, are commissioned, as well as the development of alternative routes for transporting oil.

"Right now, pipelines are being built, a road is being built through Syria - an amazing route that is actually already open, and people are transporting tanks, huge trucks with oil through Syria. Many alternatives to the Strait of Hormuz are being created. The Strait of Hormuz is not what it used to be... They (Iran - ed.) will end up with the Strait of Hormuz, which no one will need anymore," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.

Earlier, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said that the total volume of oil supplies from the Persian Gulf region had reached an average of approximately 17 million barrels per day thanks to pumping through the Strait of Hormuz and updated pipeline infrastructure bypassing the trade artery.

Trump announced on August 18 that the Strait of Hormuz is open to navigation, and there is a naval blockade against Iran. At the moment, the conflict remains unresolved, and the United States is relying on economic pressure.
