Teachers and students across the country attended the opening ceremony online and in person, starting the new school year with many expectations and changes, after the largest public school arrangement in nearly 50 years.
At the central bridge point located at Muong Khuong Boarding School, Lao Cai province, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung attended and performed the opening ceremony.
The school is nearly 5 hectares wide, with classrooms, function rooms, boarding areas, multi-purpose houses, sports fields (football, basketball, running track), with a total investment of 255 billion VND. This is one of 100 border boarding schools inaugurated today.
Principal Mong Thi Duyen said 980 students are all ethnic minorities. Each child is given a set of textbooks and school supplies. The kitchen opened on the first day of school (August 26) with three meals a day.
"Many parents also say they have never seen such a beautiful school. They feel secure in sending their children to the school to work far away," she said.
At 7:30 a.m., the opening and inauguration ceremony of inter-level boarding schools in land border communes began with musical performances performed by the school's students. All high schools and universities across the country follow this program.
Before that, nearly 6 a.m., many students in neat uniforms were present at Tan Dinh Primary and Secondary School, Tan Dinh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, in cool weather, about 27 degrees. This school is formed from Tan Dinh Primary School, Duoc Song Primary School and Van Lang Secondary School, with more than 1,500 students. The opening ceremony took place simultaneously at the headquarters and the branches.
"I like going to school because I get to meet friends. The three summer months at home are very sad," said Duong Thi Minh Phuong, a student of grade 9/1.
At 6:30 a.m., the school held a ceremony to hang new nameplates. Principal Tran Ngoc Lam said the inter-level model will help take advantage of facilities, facilitate teacher rotation and improve teaching quality.
In An Phu ward, hundreds of Nguyen Van Troi secondary school students were also brought to school early by their parents. The program opens from 7am with exciting videos, introducing teachers, school activities and 32 new 6th grade classes. In addition to the main screen on the stage, the school arranges 4 televisions in the corners of the yard for students to watch.
Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Y, class 6A5, eagerly waited for the performance and folk games.
"It's the first time opening a new school so it's a bit strange, much different from the old elementary school. The introduction of the 6th grade classes with the wishes for each class is very meaningful," Y said.
With 112 classes and about 5,200 students, Nguyen Van Troi Secondary School is the largest school in Ho Chi Minh City and also the largest in the country. This is an area adjacent to industrial zones. The students are mainly children of workers and laborers, increasing year by year so the school is always overcrowded.
Mr. Nguyen Trung Toan, Principal, said that therefore, only one teaching session per day is held. Teachers and students set a "consistent" goal of ensuring enough, correct program, and gradually improving quality.
Ho Chi Minh City is about to become the educational super city of the country with 2.6 million students, an increase of more than 96,000 compared to last year. Even though more than 1,000 new classrooms have been added, the city still faces a shortage of local schools, especially in the old Binh Duong area.
After the arrangement, the city still has more than 1,480 public schools, a reduction of 702 focal units.

The opening ceremony at Viet Duc High School started at 7am, opening with musical performances performed by students. Next was the welcoming ceremony for more than 900 10th grade students. They lined up by class, waved flags, and marched with their homeroom teacher from the school gate to the classroom seating area - priority was given closest to the stage. When passing the main stage, the homeroom teacher will receive flowers from the school board, instead of wishing teachers and students a brilliant school year with many achievements.
Le Minh Nguyen, class 10A1, felt excited about the first opening ceremony of three years of high school, and was proud that he was the first class to experience the new school space after repair and construction. Nguyen said he chose a combination of four natural subjects, including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Informatics. Male students hope to experience a school year with many opportunities to develop and learn.
