Former Taiwan People's Party Chairman Ko Wenzhe said today that the 2026 election will depend on New Taipei City and Kaohsiung City. If the Democratic Progressive Party captures New Taipei City, Chinese Kuomintang Chairman Cheng Lai-wen will step down, but if the blue camp captures Kaohsiung, Democratic Progressive Party Chairman Lai Qingde will probably need to be replaced.

Ko Wenzhe, Kaohsiung City Councilor candidate Lin Yukai of the People’s Party, and Ke Zhien, the Kaohsiung mayoral candidate of the Kuomintang, were sweeping the streets at Yangming Market in Kaohsiung’s Sanmin District in the morning. Some people enthusiastically shouted "Good morning, Abei" to Ke Wenzhe. They shook hands and took photos with vendors along the way, and some merchants sent radishes to bless the candidates.
