The Sultanate of Oman and the “Islamic Military Coalition to Combat Terrorism” discussed, on Monday, ways to develop the bilateral partnership in a way that contributes to supporting regional and international efforts aimed at confronting terrorist threats and enhancing security and stability.
This came during a meeting with Lieutenant General Bahri Abdullah Al-Raisi, Chief of Staff of the Sultan’s Armed Forces in Muscat, with Major General Pilot Mohammed Al-Mughidi, Secretary-General of the Coalition. The two sides reviewed aspects of enhancing areas of cooperation in combating terrorism, building capabilities, and exchanging experiences.
During the meeting, Al-Mughidi shed light on the coalition’s most prominent work, initiatives and programs in its four fields: intellectual, media, combating terrorist financing, and military, and the efforts it is making to support member states and develop their institutional and human capabilities.
He also reviewed the role of the Islamic Alliance Initiatives Finance Fund, its objectives and work processes, and its role in financing priority strategic initiatives of member states, and enabling them to implement qualitative programs and sustainable projects in various fields of combating terrorism.
The Secretary-General of the Alliance and his accompanying delegation visited the Maritime Security Center in the Sultanate of Oman, and met with Brigadier General Abdullah Al-Hajri, Head of the Centre, as part of his visit to Muscat, to enhance cooperation and coordination with member states.
The delegation listened to an introductory briefing that covered the center’s competencies and operational duties, and the work and coordination mechanisms used in monitoring the maritime situation, in addition to its roles in supporting the security and safety of maritime navigation, and dealing with potential risks and threats.
The Secretary-General was briefed on the equipment and capabilities included in the center, and the tasks it performs in the field of monitoring, follow-up, information exchange and coordination between concerned parties, and its role in confronting terrorist threats and cross-border crimes in the marine environment. This enhances readiness and speed of response, and contributes to protecting the security of sea lanes and the safety of navigation.
Major General Al-Mughidi praised the efforts of the Sultanate of Oman in supporting security and stability, stressing the Islamic Alliance’s keenness to expand the horizons of cooperation and exchange experiences with it. In order to achieve the aspirations of member states and strengthen the system of joint international action in combating terrorism.
On Monday, the Saudi Civil Defense announced that the danger that required an alert to be issued through the National Emergency Early Warning Platform in Abha and Khamis Mushayt had passed, after warning residents and calling on them to adhere to preventive guidelines.
The Civil Defense had issued an early warning warning of the presence of danger in Abha and Khamis Mushait, calling on residents to remain calm, follow official instructions, and go to the nearest safe place inside buildings, while staying away from windows and open places until the situation is declared over.
He pointed out that if you receive a warning message while driving, you should stop on the side of the road away from bridges and tall buildings, calling for reporting any danger via the number (911) in the regions of Makkah Al-Mukarramah, Medina, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province, or via the number (998) in the rest of the regions of the Kingdom.
He also recommended at the time not to leave buildings, stop to photograph accidents, or gather in dangerous locations, and directed vehicle drivers to stop in safe places away from bridges and tall buildings when receiving the warning message, and to contact the number (911) in the event of any emergency.
Civil Defense stressed the importance of obtaining information from official channels and adhering to the instructions issued by the competent authorities until the emergency situation ends.
