A series of mountain accidents in Gangwon... Two hikers rescued after falling rocks on Mt. Seorak

From last month to the 6th of this month, 313 dispatches... 21.3% increase from last year

(Chuncheon = Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Sang-hak = On the 11th, the last day of the Hangeul Day holiday, a series of fall mountaineering accidents occurred in the Gangwon region.

At around 9:45 a.m. on this day, two foreign men in their 20s who were hiking near Dinosaur Ridge on Mt. Seorak, Yongdae-ri, Buk-myeon, Inje-gun, were hit by falling rocks.

They complained of head injuries and left arm pain and were rescued by a fire helicopter and taken to the hospital.

At 10:06 a.m., a man in his 60s complained of pain at the top of Birobong Peak on Odaesan Mountain in Dongsan-ri, Jinbu-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, and was taken to the hospital by fire helicopter.

At 12:13 p.m., a woman in her 50s who was heading to Oseam from Yeongsiam, Yongdae-ri, Buk-myeon, Inje, injured her ankle and was rescued by helicopter.

Meanwhile, as the number of hikers increases in the fall, the number of mountain accidents has also increased.

According to the Gangwon Provincial Fire Department, the number of mountain accidents dispatched from last month to the 6th of this month was 313, an increase of 55 cases (21.3%) from 258 cases in the same period last year.
