Among the rescued children, there were 140 with extremely low body weight.

MOSCOW, September 9 - RIA Novosti. More than 2.4 thousand premature babies, including 140 with extremely low body weight, have been saved by neonatologists in the Moscow region since the beginning of 2026, said Deputy Chairman of the Moscow Region Government and Regional Health Minister Maxim Zabelin.

“Specialists (in the Moscow region - ed.) provide assistance at all stages - from resuscitation of a newborn to further recovery. Thanks to this, since the beginning of the year, neonatologists have been able to save more than 2.4 thousand premature babies, including 140 with extremely low body weight,” the department’s press service quotes Zabelin as saying.

It is clarified that there is a three-level obstetric care system in the region. Help for pregnant women, women in labor and newborns is provided in maternity hospitals, perinatal centers and the Moscow Regional Research Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology named after Academician V. I. Krasnopolsky.
