Shandong Zhaoyuan Nuclear Power is the tenth nuclear power base deployed by CGN in China. Units 1 and 2 of the project received national approval on August 19, 2024. The main project of Unit 1 of the project started on November 18, 2025. It is China's first "Hualong One" nuclear power unit equipped with a cooling tower. The raft foundation of the reactor building of Unit 2 of the project being poured this time is a cylinder with a radius of 27 meters and a height of 3.7 meters. The total concrete pouring volume is about 8,800 cubic meters, and the continuous construction is expected to be about 60 hours.
Yu Xiangdong, executive director of Shandong Zhaoyuan Nuclear Power Co., Ltd., said that currently more than 300 Shandong companies have established cooperative relationships with Zhaoyuan Nuclear Power. The project is actively integrated into the construction of a clean heating network on the Jiaodong Peninsula in Shandong Province, creating a demonstration base for comprehensive utilization of nuclear energy, and promoting demonstration applications such as nuclear energy heating and industrial steam supply.
The Shandong Zhaoyuan Nuclear Power Project plans to build six "Hualong One" nuclear power units. Each unit is equipped with a high-level water-collecting natural ventilation cooling tower with a height of 203 meters and a water spray area of 16,800 square meters, changing the direct cold source of the conventional island of the nuclear power plant from the sea to the atmosphere. After the project is fully completed, based on the average utilization hours of domestic nuclear power in 2025, the annual power generation is expected to reach 50 billion kilowatt-hours, which can meet the annual production and living electricity needs of more than 5 million people. This is equivalent to reducing standard coal consumption by about 15.02 million tons per year, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 46.2 million tons, and the environmental benefits are equivalent to afforestation of more than 110,000 hectares. CGN's Jixi 100,000-kilowatt solar thermal power station was put into operation on June 29, 2026, filling the gap in solar thermal power generation in Northeast my country. The project is located at 45.36 degrees north latitude. It has overcome engineering problems such as high cold and salinity, and achieved independent and controllable technology. The annual power generation can reach 180 million kilowatt-hours, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 139,000 tons annually. It also drives the integrated coordinated operation of wind, solar, and thermal storage, providing new momentum for the green transformation of Northeast China.

The 2026 Taiyuan Energy Low-Carbon Development Forum parallel forum "Energy Technology Innovation and Development Forum" was held in Taiyuan. The conference focused on AI empowerment, green power conversion and carbon neutral practice. Several academicians conducted in-depth analysis on cutting-edge issues such as hydrogen energy, coal transformation and multi-energy integration, aiming to promote the high-end, green and intelligent upgrading of the energy industry.

During the 2026 Taiyuan Energy Low-Carbon Development Forum, Chinese and British experts and officials discussed the exit path of coal power, reuse of coal assets and just transformation in Taiyuan, and shared energy transformation experience and technological exploration, aiming to promote the construction of a green power system.

The 2026 Taiyuan Energy Low-Carbon Development Forum parallel event "Coal and Coalbed Methane Co-Extraction Innovation and Development Forum" was held in Shanxi on September 4. Many academicians and international experts focused on "draining before mining, integrating coal mining and gas extraction", and discussed how to ensure the safety of coal mines and convert gas into clean energy to help resource-based areas transform into green and low-carbon.

Executive President Zhuo Rongtai inspected the Taichung Thermal Power Plant and emphasized that the No. 1 and 2 coal-fired units of the Central Power Plant must be dismantled and no longer operate. Minister of Economic Affairs Gong Mingxin announced that the new gas-fired unit will reach full power generation in October. Taipower will simultaneously start the dismantling project to achieve the goal of coal-free power supply in 2034, and called on the Legislative Yuan to support the budget to stabilize power supply and prices.

The 2026 Taiyuan Energy Low Carbon Development Forum "Extreme Environment and Future Energy Technology" sub-forum was held in Taiyuan, Shanxi. Experts discuss cutting-edge applications of clean energy. Taiyuan University of Technology and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology signed a memorandum of cooperation to jointly promote the construction of the "Snowflake" International Arctic Station energy system project.
