Man in his 20s arrested for illegally filming women’s locker room at water park

A man in his 20s was arrested by the police for entering the water park Caribbean Bay's women's locker room disguised as androgynous and taking illegal photos.

Gyeonggi Yongin Eastern Police Station announced on the 22nd that it had applied for an arrest warrant for Mr. A, a man in his 20s, on charges of violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (filming using cameras, etc., and trespassing into public places for sexual purposes).

Mr. A, who is unemployed, is accused of secretly entering the women's locker room at Everland Caribbean Bay in Yongin City on two occasions, in the middle of last month and on the 30th, and illegally filming users.

As a result of the police investigation, it was revealed that at the time of the crime, Mr. A had entered the women's locker room after dressing up in an androgynous appearance, such as wearing a short-cut wig, sunglasses, and a mask, making it difficult to clearly identify his or her gender.

He entered the water park in the afternoon, stayed there for about 4 to 5 hours, and committed the crime using a cell phone and small filming equipment. However, the specific time spent in the locker room has not yet been confirmed.

During the police investigation, Mr. A reportedly stated, "I wanted to watch it alone out of curiosity," and "I did not distribute the video to the outside world."

After receiving a report from Caribbean Bay on the 30th of last month, the police traced Mr. A's escape route through surrounding CCTV footage. After identifying his identity and residence, he was arrested at his home in Seoul at around 4:40 p.m. on the 21st, about 20 days after his escape.

The police have confiscated the mobile phone, small filming equipment, and storage media used in the crime from Mr. A's home and are analyzing them using digital forensic techniques.

There are two victims identified so far, but the number of victims may increase depending on the forensic results.

Previously, Mr. A was seen wandering around the women's locker room with his face covered at around 4:40 pm on the 30th of last month, arousing the suspicion of users.

At the time, when Mr. A lifted his sunglasses up at the request of a user, people around him shouted, “It’s a man.” Later, when a water park employee approached him and asked for his ID, Mr. A shook off the employee and ran outside.

The police plan to further investigate the specific size and distribution of the illegal footage as soon as the forensic results are released. The schedule for suspect interrogation (warrant substantive review) before arresting Mr. A has not yet been determined.
