وتقول النيابة العامة إن شريف الله استطلع الطريق المؤدي إلى المطار، حيث فجر الانتحاري لاحقا عبوته وسط حشود كانت تحاول الفرار بعد أيام من استيلاء طالبان على كابول.

وسحبت الولايات المتحدة آخر جنودها من أفغانستان في أغسطس (آب) 2021، في عملية استمرّت أكثر من أسبوعين وسادتها فوضى وشملت إجلاء عشرات الآلاف من الأفغان الذين تدفّقوا إلى المطار أملا بمغادرة البلاد.
