Weather forecast for winter 2026-2027 in Moscow and Russian regions

Leading specialist of Meteonovosti Tatyana Pozdnyakova said that the air temperature at the beginning of winter in Moscow will exceed the climate norm. She spoke about this in a conversation with aif.ru.

Abnormal temperatures

Pozdnyakova clarified that, according to the preliminary forecast, November and December in the capital are expected to have positive abnormal air temperatures. At the same time, the expert emphasized that the calculations are unofficial and may change.

Earlier it was reported that the migration season of migratory birds has started in Moscow. Swifts, cuckoos, swallows and flycatchers began to leave the city.

Snow in Moscow

Director of the Hydrometeorological Center Yuri Simonov admitted that the coming winter in Moscow could be quite snowy. He emphasized that the winter weather in the capital region shows instability from year to year. Thus, periods of thaw alternate with cold snaps, and sleet and rain are followed by snowstorms.

In turn, leading specialist at the Phobos weather center, Evgeny Tishkovets, said that the meteorological winter in Moscow may be two to three weeks shorter. It usually starts in mid-November and ends on March 20th. At the same time, motorists will have to change summer tires to winter ones later than usual.

At the same time, the first snow in the capital may fall in the second half of October, says Tishkovets. “In November, this story will become more frequent, the snow will be temporary, even if it appears one or two centimeters, it will immediately disappear after a certain amount of time,” he added.

The winter of 2026-2027 in some regions of Russia will be colder than usual, warned the head of the Meteo forecast center, Alexander Shuvalov. He pointed out that this summer, contrary to forecasts, turned out to be not anomalous, but quite typical for the country.
