The registration list for the 2026 nine-in-one election of county and city heads has been announced. 23 people are running for mayors directly under the central government and 58 people are running for county mayors.

Registration for the 2026 nine-in-one general election ended yesterday, and voting will take place on November 28 to elect nine local public officials including mayors, county mayors, and county and city councilors. Both the ruling and opposition parties have gone all out to win over local governance territory. The Democratic Progressive Party has focused on the three hotspots of Taipei City, New Taipei City, and Taichung City, striving to boost regional and Taiwan-wide momentum. The KMT aims to maintain a tie and hopes to retain its seats in this election.

23 people ran for municipal mayor and 58 people ran for county mayor.

According to statistics from the Central Election Commission, at the end of the year, candidates for the nine-in-one election were registered, with a total of 23 mayors, 610 municipal councilors, 58 county mayors, 892 county and city councilors, 465 township mayors, 3,437 township citizen representatives, and 10 Six mountain aboriginal district chiefs in municipalities directly under the Central Government, 94 representatives of mountain aboriginal districts in municipalities directly under the Central Government, and 14,100 candidates for village and district chiefs have completed registration. A total of 19,695 people have completed registration, and it is expected that 11,051 local public officials will be elected.

The Selection Committee and the municipal, county and city election committees will complete the candidate qualification review before October 16. Qualified candidates will be drawn by the municipal, county and city election committees on October 23.

In the most important race for Bailihou, the Democratic Progressive Party and the Kuomintang each nominated 19 people to compete. The DPP only chose to cooperate with non-party member Zhang Jun in Hualien and did not nominate candidates in Kinmen and Lienjiang. The Kuomintang cooperated with the People’s Party in Hsinchu City and Chiayi County and City, and responded by jointly recommending candidates through Blue and White.

Lai Qingde, chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party, has issued a mobilization order at the Central Standing Committee, requiring all candidates and teams to go into every corner of the constituency. According to internal party assessments, the three municipalities in the north, north and middle will be the areas with the most intensive air combat firepower in the future.

As for the Kuomintang, the recent nomination turmoil in Changhua County and the impact of the blue-white conflict in Hsinchu County and Keelung City have led to internal assessments within the party that at least three to four counties and cities may not be able to continue to be in power.
