[Reporter Lin Jinghua/Taipei Report] Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs Jiang Wenruo co-chaired the "2026 Taiwan-UK Economic and Trade Dialogue Conference" with Lord Anas Sarwar, Deputy Minister for Trade of the British Department of Business, Innovation, Science and Trade (BIST) in London, England yesterday (2) to have in-depth exchanges on economic and trade policy, economic security, and cooperation in key industries such as clean energy, advanced manufacturing and life sciences.
Jiang Wenruo said that Taiwan and the UK each have their own strengths in scientific research, innovation and industrial development. Combining the UK's advantages in basic research, AI chip design and technological innovation with Taiwan's experience in advanced manufacturing, system integration and supply chain management will help accelerate the development and verification of forward-looking technologies to commercialization, and jointly explore the global market.

Sarwar, Deputy Minister of BIST, said that the UK and Taiwan have a solid trade relationship, which brings growth, employment and investment to the bilateral economy. This Taiwan-UK Economic and Trade Dialogue will help identify new bilateral opportunities in digital trade, clean energy, and advanced manufacturing, support the UK’s industrial plans, and promote regional growth.
During the meeting, Taiwan and the UK exchanged views on a number of key technologies and industrial fields, including key minerals, space, and biotechnology and medicine. In terms of clean energy, the UK has expressed interest in participating in Taiwan's future floating offshore wind power demonstration project and hopes to deepen the long-term green energy partnership between the two parties.
The deputy ministers of both sides also witnessed the signing of memorandums of cooperation (MOU) between the Export-Import Bank of China and the UK Export Credit Agency (UKEF), and the Institute for Economic Research and the UK Technology Trade Association (Tech UK) to promote the docking of industries from both sides. The two cooperations will combine financial resources and industrial networks to create more favorable conditions for Taiwan-UK enterprises to promote cooperation.
During this trip, Vice Minister Jiang also attended the "Taiwan-British Business Roundtable", where Chinese businesses expressed their needs and suggestions for overseas expansion to the British side to promote policy alignment and industrial links between Taiwan and the UK. He also held discussions with British MPs and think tank scholars to exchange views on the international political and economic situation and the prospects for economic and trade cooperation between Taiwan and the UK.
