In Russia, the market for “folk” canned food has grown in the first half of 2026

In Russia, the market for “folk” canned food has grown significantly. The analytical company NTech reported this to Lenta.ru.

Canned vegetables performed better than others in retail based on the results of the first half of 2026 by the first six months of 2025: sales of pickled cucumbers increased by 24 percent in monetary terms and by 12 percent in physical terms, and pickled tomatoes - by 22 percent in monetary terms and by 10 percent in weight.

There was also a noticeable increase in sales of canned sprat (+16 percent in money and +7 percent in weight) and sprat (+13 and +2), canned corn (+15% and +1%) and green peas (+13% in money), as well as condensed milk (+10 money and +2 in weight). “These indicators are generally better than the dynamics of the Russian food market. Excluding alcohol and tobacco products in the first half of the year, year-on-year it grew by 6.4 percent in monetary terms and by 2.1 percent in physical terms,” NTech said.

Sales of beef stew increased by 10 percent in monetary terms, but fell by 7 percent in volume terms. At the same time, sales of canned stewed pork increased both in money and in weight: by 10 and 2 percent, respectively.

Canned squash caviar sold 8 percent better in monetary terms, but showed -2 ​​percent in physical terms.
