The London Marathon organizers set the dates for the 2027 edition through a game of rock-paper-scissors, the Swiss Federation withdraws its support for Infantino, and the Court of Arbitration for Sport sets the date for the appeal session of the 2025 African Nations final.

The organizers of the London Marathon announced, on Wednesday, that the dates for the 2027 edition of the races, which will be held exceptionally over two days, were determined in an unusual way through the “rock-paper-scissors” game.

The game brought together Kenyan Sebastian Sawi, world record holder and 2026 London Marathon champion, and Catherine DeBronner, world record holder for women's wheelchair races.

Sawi had become the first man to cover the marathon distance in less than two hours in a race that qualified for the record, after he finished the 2026 London Marathon with a time of one hour, 59 minutes and 30 seconds.

Sawi lost the game of “rock-paper-scissors” to Debroner, so that Sunday was devoted to elite women’s competitions and women’s wheelchair races, while the men’s competitions were held the day before, Saturday, April 24, 2027.

Hugh Brasher, executive director of the London Marathon, said the game between Sawe and Debrunner was "an entertaining way to decide which day each of the elite races would take place".

The 2027 edition of the London Marathon will be held over two days for the first time, in an exceptional, one-time change from the usual system in which competitions are held within one day.

The general draw to participate in the race witnessed a record turnout, with 1.33 million people registering for it.

The Swiss Football Association announced on Wednesday that it was withdrawing its support for Gianni Infantino’s candidacy for a new term as president of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).

Last June, the Executive Committee of the Swiss Confederation announced its support for Infantino, before retracting its position during a meeting held on September 25.

The Swiss Federation explained, in a statement, that the decision came “after a comprehensive re-evaluation of the developments witnessed in the past few months.” He added: “From the point of view of the Swiss Football Association, several events raise fundamental questions about leadership, governance, transparency and decision-making mechanisms within FIFA.”

Today, Wednesday, the Court of Arbitration for Sport revealed the details of the hearing of the appeal filed by the Senegalese Football Federation against the African Confederation and the Moroccan Federation regarding the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.

Senegal had defeated Morocco, the host of the land, in the final match, before being stripped of the title due to its players withdrawing from the field for 14 minutes in protest during the final minutes of the confrontation, so the title was awarded to Morocco, a decision that was appealed by the Senegalese Federation.

The court announced that the hearing will be held on October 8, at its headquarters in the Swiss city of Lausanne, and will be in person and closed to the media, after none of the parties requested a public hearing.

The session is scheduled to begin at nine-thirty in the morning, and will end in the afternoon, before the arbitration panel begins its deliberations to consider the case.

The court confirmed that it cannot currently determine the date for issuing the final decision, noting that the ruling will not be issued on the same day in which the session will be held.

Representatives of the Senegalese and Moroccan federations will attend the Lausanne session, along with legal advisors representing the Confederation of African Football.
